Our response to CQC special measures report

The report, highlights the work by Monitor and the NHS Trusts Development Authority to support the 11 trusts in special measures.

The report says that there have been improvements across the majority of trusts and shows where further improvements still need to be made.

In response to Special Measures: one year on our Chief Executive, Katherine Rake, said:

“This report shows a mixed picture of progress made since Sir Bruce Keogh’s review. For the five Trusts that are now coming out of special measures it is great news for the patients of the hospitals involved, giving them confidence that progress is being made. Worryingly, one Trust has failed to improve, a further five Trusts will continue in special measures, and 60% of the services were not doing enough to protect the safety of patients. It is vital that more work is done to ensure that these Trusts improve and provide the care that local people expect and deserve.

“As effective as the new style inspections are proving to be, it shouldn’t have to reach the point of crisis for hospitals to take action and focus on delivering the sort of high quality care and support their patients should be able to expect.”
