HSCIC publish new figures on written complaints to the NHS
The Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) has published its quarterly collection of data on written complaints to the NHS.
The new figures show that there were 27,900 new written complaints made to the NHS in the second quarter of 2015 – the equivalent of approximately 303 per day.
Responding to the figures, our Acting National Director, Susan Robinson said:
“We welcome the HSCIC's initiative to publish complaints data more regularly and in more detail than ever before, it is a real reflection of how seriously the NHS is now taking people’s feedback.
“Our research shows that only 1 in 5 of those who tell us they experience poor care actually write a formal complaint meaning the system is losing out on thousands of opportunities to learn and ensure poor experiences aren’t repeated.
“Local Healthwatch across the country are working with their local hospitals, GPs and care homes to help people to raise their concerns and ensure that they get a compassionate response.”
